Time-Bounded Sequential Parameter Optimization

چکیده
The optimization of algorithm performance by automatically identifying good parameter settings is an important problem that has recently attracted much attention in the discrete optimization community. One promising approach constructs predictive performance models and uses them to focus attention on promising regions of a design space. Such methods have become quite sophisticated and have achieved significant successes on other problems, particularly in experimental design applications. However, they have typically been designed to achieve good performance only under a budget expressed as a number of function evaluations (e.g., target algorithm runs). In this work, we show how to extend the Sequential Parameter Optimization framework [SPO; see 5] to operate effectively under time bounds. Our methods take into account both the varying amount of time required for different algorithm runs and the complexity of model building and evaluation; they are particularly useful for minimizing target algorithm runtime. Specifically, we avoid the up-front cost of an initial design, introduce a time-bounded intensification mechanism, and show how to reduce the overhead incurred by constructing and using models. Overall, we show that our method represents a new state of the art in model-based optimization of algorithms with continuous parameters on single problem instances.

Estimation of Software Reliability by Sequential Testing with Simulated Annealing of Mean Field Approximation
Various problems of combinatorial optimization and permutation can be solved with neural network optimization. The problem of estimating the software reliability can be solved with the optimization of failed components to its minimum value. Various solutions of the problem of estimating the software reliability have been given. These solutions are exact and heuristic, but all the exact approach...
متن کاملSequential estimation of linear combinations of the location and scale parameters in negative exponential distribution
Sequential estimation is used where the total sample size is not fix and the problem cannot solve with this fixed sample size. Sequentially estimating the mean in an exponential distribution (one and two parameter), is an important problem which has attracted attentions from authors over the years. These largely addressed an exponential distribution involving a single or two parameters. In t...
متن کاملClassification of Sequential Circuits Based on Combinational Test Generation Complexity
Several classes of sequential circuits with combinational test generation complexity have been introduced. However, no general notation is used to define the time complexity of test generation. In this paper, we introduce a new test generation notation that we call τ notation in order to present and clarify the classification of sequential circuits based on the combinational test generation com...
متن کاملBounded approximate connes-amenability of dual Banach algebras
We study the notion of bounded approximate Connes-amenability for dual Banach algebras and characterize this type of algebras in terms of approximate diagonals. We show that bounded approximate Connes-amenability of dual Banach algebras forces them to be unital. For a separable dual Banach algebra, we prove that bounded approximate Connes-amenability implies sequential approximat...

In this article introduce the sequential order statistics.
